Singapore is a safe place, even from aliens. Just watch those Hollywood blockbusters. They just love the US. But what would people say happen if they were to land here in Singapore?
1. “What will the government do about this?” - Everyone
Maybe the UFOs are blocking the sunlight and your clothes won’t dry. Maybe one of the UFOs took your usual parking spot. Here is everybody’s favourite question every time something goes wrong in Singapore, so let’s get this out of the way.
2. “Where’s your parking coupon?” - Summon Aunties
Speaking of parking, the Summon Aunties are going to have a field day with these perpetually unmoving UFOs. They will pay for this, literally. They will make sure of it.
3. “Will they take our jobs?” - Jobseekers
Singaporeans are perpetually afraid of jobs being snatched by foreign talents. The rising unemployment rate is not making things any easier. These aliens with technologically advanced skills came to take our jobs, right?
4. “Stay there one night how much?” - Tourists
As a popular tourist destination, Singapore has its fair share of unique, alien-looking structures such as the the Esplanade, Gardens by The Bay and Marina Bay Sands Hotel. They might mistake these towering alien ships as an avant-garde accommodation option with Instagram-worthy infinity pool.
5. “Does it have license plate number?” - 4D buyers
If the license plate numbers of cars in accidents are lucky, UFO license plate numbers must be even luckier.
Maybe these are reasons why they don’t want to come to Singapore. We can watch their arrival (ha!) in the US as an expert linguist played by Amy Adams is recruited by the military to determine whether they come in peace or are a threat after alien crafts land around the world.
‘Arrival’ opens in theatres 12 January 2017.
