Michelle Chong Awarded Best Director at Canadian International Film Festival

Local actress-host-entrepreneur-filmmaker Michelle Chong won the best director award for ‘Lulu The Movie’ at the Canada International Film Festival 2017. She also played the titular character in addition to writing and producing the film.

“This is my first best director award, and it comes from an ‘ang moh’ country, no less!” said Michelle Chong, in character as Lulu.

“And I didn’t even have to pay for it! It’s moving to me that the Canadians understand and appreciate the style and humour of the movie. Lulu love Canada! Lulu love Justin Trudeau!” as she referenced the Canadian Prime Minister.

‘Lulu The Movie’ is about the adventures of Lulu, a KTV hostess from China, who was one of the characters in the local show ‘The Noose’. The film opened last November and earned SGD 2.1 million in the domestic box office. It is Michelle Chong’s third film.
