Here's how the world celebrated May the 4th (Be With You) on Instagram

By Say Peng  /  06 May 2019 (Monday)

Just a few days ago, the world celebrated May the Fourth, also known as Star Wars Day.

Apparently, it all started when, in 1979, two years after the release of 'Star Wars', an advertisement in the London Evening News congratulated the late Margaret Thatcher for being Britain's first woman Prime Minister when she was sworn into office on May 4th.

The ad declared: "May The Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations."

Since then, the catchphrase has entered the mainstream lexicon.

The first Star Wars Day celebration took place in 2011 in Toronto, Canada. It was in 2013 that the Walt Disney Company made Star Wars Day official.

We scoured Instagram to find 10 of the most interesting, unique, and funny #maythe4thbewithyou posts.

While pausing for a brief moment from scavenging on the arid planet of Jakku, Force sensitive @aegiscosplay is sharing her Disney side. Will she encounter a lost droid or will she discover mementos of battles from the past? Either way, her Rey Mousetale is beyond amazing. Did you know that reservations for the Galaxy’s Edge soft opening period ‘sold out’ in two hours this past Thursday? ✨ #Repost ・・・ "I‘m no one." ———— ‪⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Not entirely done with this cosplay yet, but it’s May the 4th & I had to post something Star Wars related! .
