Carey Mulligan has been cast as Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein in the upcoming Netflix Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro!
Maestro is based on Leonard Bernstein, a world-famous composer best known for his Broadway musical West Side Story. It will tell the complex love story of Leonard and Felicia, a story that spans over 30 years–from the time they met in 1946 at a party and continuing through two engagements, a 25 year marriage, and three children: Jamie Bernstein, Alexander Bernstein and Nina Bernstein Simmons.
Mulligan will play Bernstein's wife, opposite Bradley Cooper who will take on the title role. Cooper will also be directing and writing the screenplay with shooting planned to begin early 2021. The actor has been working with the Bernstein family for three years developing the film as the followup to his directorial debut, A Star is Born.
