Thanks to SPRG and Li Channel, InCinemas was there with the Maverick Chef and Joanne Peh during its press conference and got the opportunity to taste some of the 'Extreme' delicacies specially prepared by the self-taught Michelin-Starred chef Alvin Leung, who is known for his "X-treme Chinese" cuisine back in Hong Kong.

And to be honest, although it's been 2 weeks since I've tried the dishes, the texture and taste of the dishes still remains fresh in my mind! Can't believe it! The experience is probably too extreme that it has left a deep impression in me.. I guess it applies to all everyone else too! One example of the 'extreme experience' would be the Nasi Lemak Ice-cream. One bite of the ice-cream and you won't resist a second try. It's like eating Nasi Lemak, only in a very different way!

Just imagine the sweet crispy taste of the Ikan Bilis, the aroma of the roasted peanuts together with the coconut ice-cream and the pandan wrap... >__< Simply unforgettable.. But I managed to stop myself halfway through to share this picture on the right.. Haha..

Most importantly, this coming Sunday 13 November 9pm, we will get to see the Maverick Chef, Alvin Leong (fondly known as the Demon Chef) in action on Li Channel!

Each episode flies Alvin to a different and exciting Asian city – Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Bangkok and Taipei – where he will sample and learn more about the country‟s top signature dishes handpicked by a female celebrity foodie friend. Check out this 2 mins highlights in The Maverick Chef!

Joining Alvin on the Singapore episode is co-host self-professed foodie Joanne Peh, who introduces him to kaya toast, Katong laksa, Chatterbox chicken rice, and No Signboard chilli crab. Other co-hosts featured include Bernice Liu (Hong Kong), Fritra Sechan (Indonesia), Paula Malai Ali (Malaysia), Crystal Li (Taiwan), and Cindy Burbridge (Thailand).

Alvin is quick to note that he is not in a position to 'improve' any National Dishes. "I wont say (the word) 'Improve'. Improve implies the original dish needs improvement. But when the dish is simple, it is more challenging." said the Maverick Chef. "What I'm trying is to give you the experience which I call extreme. Something exciting... I want the viewers to understand more about the different culture, its style and food. Singapore and Malaysia may seem similar but they are (in fact) all very different!"

The word 'Extreme' goes very well with this Demon Chef (also see tattoo on his right arm). He can be very friendly and humorous during his sharing but when it comes to work, he seems to be transformed into another person whom Joanne Peh would describe as "Perfectionist who's always angry".
