DANCE DANCE DRAGON is slated for 19th January 2012 release, amidst other movies opening in the same period. Starring comedians Kym Ng, Dennis Chew, Adrian Pang, Bryan Wong and Malaysian actor Melvin Sia, these actors get transformed in the movie!

It is especially so for Dennis Chew, who doubles as the soft-spoken demure Loong’s eldest daughter Lucy, and her Indian first love. To add onto surprises and comic effect, Dennis volunteers to take on yet another challenge of playing duo-role.

Irin Lee, the designer behind costumes in It’s a Great Great World, is once again picking the outfits for Dance Dance Dragon. Much thought and effort is put into transforming the HDB-like Aunty Lucy into an elegant lady. Director Kat Goh hopes to bring forth yet another aspect of the highly popular TV character.

Dennis’s costume has been specially “beefed” up to achieve the ‘alluring’ 36-26-24, and the entire dressing up process takes an hour. It is heard that on set, Dennis immediately transform into his alter-ego as soon as he puts on the costume.

  • Two Women and One Man?
Kym plays Loong’s second daughter Ah Bee, who is a gambling addict-turned-counsellor. Her bold character and bullish character deterred men away, hence unable to attract the opposite sex.

However, she meets Chef Eric (played by Adrian Pang) a Western chef with an addiction to gambling. Kym and Adrian are no strangers to each other, having ‘dated’ way back. Kym says it’s really wonderful to work with Adrian again after so long, and the chemistry is immediately spot-on.

As revealed in the movie trailer, Lucy seems to have a thing going on with Adrian, and laughter is often heard on set whenever the trio gets together. You can imagine that!

  • 30 years passed quickly, Bryan Wong has aged prematurely?
It is actually his role in Dance Dance Dragon, as the wicked-minded Loong’s second uncle, who is constantly plotting to harm Mother Loong and family.

The production team revealed that when Bryan received the script from his manager, he even asked the manager, “Huh, must I really act so old huh?”

But after various meetings with Director Kat Goh, he is very excited about the role and enhanced the character to be of an uncle who speaks dialect in slurs. Now that’s a challenge to the Hainanese. His look is aged in the film, but thank goodness, no beer-belly is required.

While Bryan takes on a different look, Kym goes al-natural in the movie. The light make up and casual attires fits her image of a hearty and bold character.

Dance Dance Dragon opens InCinemas 19th January 2012. Rating to be advised.
