[Learn more about The Wedding Diary female lead Elanne Kwong!]
Just a few hours ago, InCinemas attended the press conference for the upcoming local comedy-drama The Wedding Diary! We had the opportunity to ask questions of Director Adrian Teh, the lead cast Ah Niu and Elanne Kwong, and the rest of the amazing cast Kara Hui, Zhu Houren, and Shaun Chen in two roundtable interviews!
The Wedding Diary opens InCinemas 9 February 2012, and when asked by InCinemas what were the box-office expectations for the film, Director Teh said that he had no personal expectations, but had a target to meet that was set by his boss, Lim Teck, the director of Clover Films, which is releasing the film. "He gave me a figure of S$2 million to hit. I hope to have this result. If you find our film good, please help promote it."

Speaking of box-office, earlier on during the stage conference, Shaun revealed that he had dengue fever over the Chinese New Year period, so his physique was not so good. "Give me two weeks, then I can confidently unbutton my shirt for all of you to see!", he joked. The conversation then went on to who would take his shirt off if the film stroke gold at the box-office. "Director Teh said that he would do it if the film becomes a hit at the box-office," came the sweet and child-like voice of Elanne Kwong.
If you've met the cast and director, you will have no doubts on how close they really are! And we believe the kiddy and cheerful behaviors of Elanne Kwong and Ah Niu play a huge part in it. Especially Elanne Kwong. One would have felt her cheerfulness and optimism just by spending a short time with her! Our InCinemas crew can testify to it!
"She's really sweet and thoughtful," Kara Hui emphasized on Elanne when speaking of the close relationship with the cast. "She is like a chewing gum that binds to you at once when she sees you. And interestingly, she feels like my own daughter."
On the other hand, Ah Niu shared his thoughts on the Hong Kong actress. "After spending a short 15mins with her, she'll reveal her 'true self' and her manager will be there shaking her head," laughed Ah Niu, while Elanne holding onto her laughter, looked at Ah Niu as though waiting to pounce on Ah Niu should he dare to say that she was irritating. "She's like a playful child. Once she's on to you, she'll keep playing and talking to you non-stop."

And more about Elanne, she pointed out during the press conference that she still missed the cast and production crew of The Wedding Diary whenever she did filming back in Hong Kong. She recalls with a heavy heart while Ah Niu sings lightly to the tune of "當你孤單你會想起誰" (Translated Title: Who Will You Think of When You Are Lonely), "During the last day of filming, I actually cried really hard because I didn't want to leave everyone here.. And when I was about to return to Hong Kong, I told Ah Niu to take away my passport so I can report loss and stay here for another few more days."
At the roundtable interviews with Elanne, Ah Niu and Shaun, we found out that the one particularly memorable scene in The Wedding Diary that saw Aniu and Shaun Chen being "tortured" with pegs clipped onto their nipples while someone yanked the pegs away, was actually added last minute by the Malaysian director, Adrian Teh. "His wedding is on 18 May," Elanne reminded Ah Niu and Shaun. "Till then you all should Sek Zhuo le (Indicating that you guys should know what to do by then)."
Nodding their heads, the three of them began discussing their plans when asked if there would be any 'contribution' should the box office for The Wedding Diary do well. "The director would strip and have the clips on his nipples in Orchard Road. But this time it'll be using electricity." Ah Niu strategized with his other two mates and Elanne said she would come to Singapore to watch this. "Yes and you'll be there to turn the switch." laughed An Niu and the rest of us joined in.

So later on, InCinemas went over to confirm with Director Teh about the idea from the cast on getting the same treatment as of the movie scene should the box office do well. "I know who suggested this! But nobody wants to see me strip. More people would want to see Ah Niu strip!", said Adrian Teh as he tried to shift the spotlight to his lead actor. "However, if the film hits S$1.5-2 million, I am okay with stripping as long everyone else also does so", Teh added with a laugh. "Ah Niu! I have no problem with that!"
Kara added to the laughter when she joked that if the film hits S$4 million, Elanne wouldn't mind stripping too! "Mama says so! No problem!"
The mood of the entire press conference was one of laughter and joy as Director Teh and the energetic cast entertained the media for nearly two hours.
This hilarious, and at times, touching story of a blissful couple who just got married, but find themselves in one difficult situation after another is suitable to watch together with your friends and family, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife! It's one film that we would recommend for Valentine's Day as the film explores the themes of familial love and romance, feelings that resonate in all of us.
The Wedding Diary opens InCinemas 9 February 2012. It is rated PG (Some sexual references).
