InCinemas meets Lover's Discourse Directors and Kit Chan

By InCinemas  /  10 Jan 2011 (Monday)

Our homegrown singer Kit Chan, along with co-directors Derek Tsang and Jimmy Wan was seen at The Cathay's The Picturehouse Lounge on the Monday afternoon, 10 Jan 2011, to promote their upcoming movie 'Lover's Discourse'. The movie opens InCinemas 13 January 2011, starring Eason Chan, Karena Lam, Mavis Fan, Jacky Heung, Kay Tse, William Chan, Kit Chan and Eddie Peng.

Speaking fluently in english, Kit Chan congratulates the two directors for being nominated the Best New Director at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Awards and she feels honoured to have worked with them in her first featured film debut. Although her profession is a singer, she still receives scripts annually and she feels that acting in a movie to her is bonus. Kit also shares with us that when she receives the script, she is fascinated by the character itself. She explains that because the character is very different from herself, it becomes something she wants to try and immense herself in the situation where it's not quite possible in real life.

Having two directors can mean having many disagreements during the shoot, but it's said to not apply for the two here. Jimmy Wan shares with us that both Derek and himself have similar interests and they hit off very well together. They actually spend more time together to plan beforehand and discuss even the small details before shooting so as to avoid arguments on-set and ensure smooth filming.

Other than having good chemistry between them, we also learn in the press conference that both directors actually have another similarity - Both of them used to have a crush with their friends' mother. This 'wrong' kind of love is portrayed in the movie by William Chan, having a crush with his friend's mum (Kit Chan) and is actually inspired by Derek's personal experience in his childhood days. Derek adds,"It was a puppy love thing and it doesn't last long. I brought up the story and they thought it's pretty interesting."

On the other hand, the media is eager to ask director Derek Tsang if he approaches his father, Eric Tsang, to fund his movie financially and his view of his father playing an unfaithful husband role which is akin to the entertainment news of Eric Tsang. Derek replies promptly that his father and himself have an agreement to work independently to avoid media's speculations. Derek hires his father in the movie because he wants his father to witness and be involved in his first directing film. He also explains that he didn't give much thoughts on the affairs because that's the only role suitable for his age. He would love to give his father a bigger role but given 4 stories in the movie, there's restricted time and limit to meet. Derek adds,"I don't follow tabloid news and when there's news like that, I just call my sis and we'll just laugh it off."

In midst of the press conference, we had a laugh when Kit Chan was asked if there's any funny moments during the shoot. Kit shares with us that Eric tends to fall asleep when he's not filming. "There was one scene when we're having dinner and suddenly we hear this snore coming from the crouch in the living room." Kit smiles and continues,"Nobody dares to say anything and Derek has to go wake his dad up."

She thought it was hilarious. Kit also tells us that she has great respect for Eric Tsang as to how he could just wake up and could act even in the sleep. Eric was snoring and they were going through the lines and when it was his turn, he could just answer it accurately. "That's acting on the highest level," Kit exclaims.
