The Starhub TVB Awards 2012 will be showing on VV Drama (Starhub TV Channel 855) on Saturday, 25 August at 7:30pm. Non-subscribers of VV Drama can catch the awards ceremony on 'On Demand', 'Internet TV VOD' and 'Mobile TV VOD' from 1 September 2012 onwards.

A total of 30 awards were presented and the biggest winners were hit drama Ghetto Justice and the highly-controversial drama When Heaven Burns, with three wins each. Ghetto Justice clinched the inaugural Singapore Media’s Favourite Drama award, and When Heaven Burns was named My Favourite TVB Drama. The leads of both dramas were also honoured, with Ghetto Justice’s Myolie Wu and Kevin Cheng and When Heaven Burns’ Moses Chan and Charmaine Sheh winning the My Favourite TVB Female and Male Character awards.

The most coveted individual awards - My Favourite TVB Actress and My Favourite TVB Actor, were won by Myolie Wu and Kevin Cheng. Both Myolie Wu and Kevin Cheng clinched the same awards at the 2011 TVB Anniversary Awards held in Hong Kong in December last year, testament that Singapore viewers echoed the same sentiments as their Hong Kong counterparts on the deserving two for these top awards.

Hu Feng, a veteran actor who started his acting career with TVB in 1987, was presented with an honorary award - the Professional Spirit Award, in recognition for his significant contributions to the Hong Kong entertainment industry. The well-liked Hu Feng was given a standing ovation by the younger artistes as he was presented with the award.

At the same time, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the local media for their support of TVB dramas via StarHub’s platform. In recognition of their support, we opened up an awards category, the Singapore Media’s Favourite TVB Drama for them. It is our way of showing appreciation for their unwavering support.”

Mr Sherman Lee, Controller, International Business, TVBI added, “StarHub has been a wonderful working partner these past 20 years. We are grateful for StarHub’s relentless efforts in promoting TVB productions and artistes to Singapore viewers, making TVB a household name in this country.”

StarHub added a surprise element at this year’s awards ceremony by specially presenting the arrival of TVB artistes with a touch of technology. The 6000-strong audience was greeted with a simulation of a huge spaceship flying around the ballroom with TVB artistes waving from within. This new technology, known as augmented reality, tapped on camera angles and tricks like zooming and panning to produce such a dynamic image.
