2012 Top 10 Highest-grossing Films in Singapore

As the year 2012 comes to an end, let us take a look at the top 10 movies that dominated our local box office chart and also a number of upcoming movies that have been attracting attention and nominations in the 70th Golden Globes Awards 2013 and the 85th Academy Awards®.

A possible contender to vie a spot in the top 10 list is The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, currently on 12th position with $3.60m. The movie is still showing in theatres, with the High Frame Rate (HFR) format only available in IMAX halls. HDR is the latest format which shows 48 frames per second instead of the 'usual' 24 frames. Here's a quick update on the upcoming movies to watch out for!

The next sequel for Marvel's The Avengers will only arrive in 2015. Till then, we have 3 upcoming projects from Marvel, first of which is Iron Man 3 and you should really check out the trailers for Iron Man 3 if you've yet to!



The new film in the Amazing Spider-Man saga is set for release in 3D on May 2, 2014. Dane DeHaan (Lincoln) and Shailene Woodley (The Descendents) will join the cast along side Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as Harry Osborn and Mary Jane Watson respectively.

Ah Boys To Men
is crowned as the All-Time Singapore Local Movie, after surpassing Money No Enough's 14 year-old record (S$6.02 million). Its sequel Ah Boys To Men 2, a continuation of the first movie, is slated for release on 3 February 2013 during the Chinese New Year period.



This magnificient poster shows the transformation of The Hunger Games to Catching Fire! The second movie in the trilogy, based on the novel by Suzanne Collins, will be directed by Francis Lawrence. and is slated for release on 22 November 2013.

70th Golden Globes Awards 2013 will be taking place on 13 January Sunday. A look at its nominations list, one might notice that there are several movies which we've yet to watch it in Singapore. Here are some of the movies getting the buzz that you should look out for!

There is also the Oscars presentation! The 85th Academy Awards® nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the Dolby Theatre™ at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.
