Some of Hollywood’s most anticipated films of the year will be opening in cinemas in Singapore soon!

By Rachelle  /  05 Aug 2020 (Wednesday)

Despite having to work against the impending pandemic that is plaguing the world, big studios (namely Warner Bros and Disney) are still taking the risk to release their films that are on most lists of ‘highly anticipated films of 2020’.

Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi thriller, Tenet, will still make its international debut starting Aug 26, ahead of the United States. The film will only open in select cities in the U.S. on Sep 3. This news followed an announcement from Warner Bros stating that the film “would not have a global day-and-date release.

Tenet, an upcoming spy film written, produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan. John David Washington will star as an operative of the organisation known as Tenet, with a task to prevent World War III. The film also stars Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Caine, Kenneth Branagh, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Clemence Poesy and Himesh Patel. It will open in Singapore cinemas August 27.

While we’re on the topic of films having their release dates being pushed back, there’s no recent movie that has suffered the brunt of that as much as The New Mutants have. The film was unfortunate enough to have gone through release hell long before the Coronavirus hit.

The New Mutants is intended to be the last installment of the X-Men film series. The film was directed by Josh Boone from a screenplay he wrote with Knate Lee, and stars Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt, and Henry Zaga. In the film, a group of young mutants held in a secret facility fight to save themselves.

The film is also slated to open in cinemas August 27.

Additionally, Disney has announced that their live-action remake Mulan will be heading to Disney+ on September 4. While this may have been disheartening news (because the streaming service is still unavailable in Singapore), it was also announced that the film will be released simultaneously in cinemas where Disney+ is not available.

Disney’s Mulan is an action drama film based on the Chinese folklore "The Ballad of Mulan" and is a live-action adaptation of Disney's 1998 animated film of the same name. The film stars Liu Yifei in the titular role with Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li and Jet Li in supporting roles.

The film, which was set to be released in March, was pushed back several times over the last few months. Now we'll finally get to see Liu Yifei kick some @$$ in cinemas on September 4!
