Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: When is The Arts House’s actual birthday?
  • A: March 26. The Arts House, formerly the Old Parliament House of Singapore, opened its doors to the public on March 26, 2004.
Q: What is the Open Call?
  • A: The Open Call is our version of an arts commons, where we open up our spaces to the commuity to serve up any kind of arts activity that they propose. It is part of our birthday celebrations in which the arts programmes are by the community for the community.
Q: What kind of activities can I organise?
  • A: Any kind! We welcome all kinds of activities, especially if they are related to books, storytelling and writing. The only criteria is that they should follow our theme this year, Writers Party.
Q: Do I need to pay to be part of the Open Call?
  • A: No, we will be supporting your activity with free use of our spaces.
Q: Will I be getting any financial support from The Arts House?
  • A: No. We will only provide the space and some logistics support.

Q: Can I sell tickets?
  • A: In the spirit of an arts commons, we want to keep all activities free and open to the public.
Q: When is the Open Call?
  • A: The Open Call is from March 23 – 24, 10am – 8pm.
Q: How long should my activity last?
  • A: Each activity is given only an hour for its slot.
Q: What are the time slots?
  • A: There are four slots each day: 10 – 11am / 1 – 2pm / 4 – 5pm / 7 – 8pm. Dates and times slots will be given on a first come, first served basis.
Q: Does the one-hour time slot include set-up and tear-down?
  • A: No, you can come in 30 minutes before your time slot to set up and you will have 30 minutes after your slot to tear down. We encourage you to keep your acitivities simple and fuss-free.
Q: What are the spaces used for the Open Call?
  • A: They are Blue Room, Chamber and Earshot.
