New ‘The Meg’ Movie Trailer Sees the Prehistoric Creature in all its Glory

By Flora  /  20 Jun 2018 (Wednesday)
Ever heard of the Megalodon, the ultimate ginormous shark that once lived on earth millions of years ago? Imagine if this biggest shark in the universe isn’t extinct, and is actually still living among us, what could possibly happen, you may ask.

That’s pretty much the premise of ‘The Meg’, an upcoming shark thriller starring Jason Statham, Li Bing Bing, Ruby Rose, Rainn Wilson and Winston Chao. Based on a 1997 science fiction book Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten, the film drops a new international Chinese trailer that looks to give the Steven Spielberg’s classic a run for its money.

Directed by Jon Turteltaub, the film tells a story about a deep-sea diver Jonas Taylor (Statham) being called into action to rescue a crew that was stranded at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific Ocean, after encountering a sea monster. He and his team would have to stop the big sea creature before it attacks the people. From the trailer, it looks like there is more than a 75-foot-long Megalodon lurking in the ocean.

We’ve seen a couple of shark thrillers these few years that aren't quite dreadful, such as ‘The Shallows’ and ’47 Meters Down’. And to be honest, an attempt to make a shark movie is never an easy feat when you have the unsurpassable ‘Jaws’ that you know everyone is going to compare it to.

Watch the trailer and let us know in the comments if this could possibly your favourite shark movie.

The Meg opens InCinemas 9 August 2018!
