Get to Know the Characters from Tiny Times & Behind-the-Scenes Videos!

Tiny Times < 小时代 > tells a story about the lives of four females who were close friends since high school. Based on Guo Jingming's best-selling novel of the same title, the movie quickly became a hit!


Here is a character breakdown and even behind-the-scenes footage for you to get to know them better before it opens in cinemas this Thursday, 15 August!

Synopsis
The story occurs in this speedy developing Shanghai city, and describes the lives of these four main female roles, Lix Xiao, Nan Xian, Gu Li and Tang Wan Ru. These four girls have been classmates since young and developed a very deep friendship even they all have various life-value and personal goal.

They have spent their school time together in university and started to face various challenges in peaceful life, including the challenges from part-time job and enormous living pressure in life. In this peaceful camp life, there are diverse dilemma for them to make decisions which involves love, friendship, working value and carrier life. Meanwhile, some sweet and bitter relationship has just flourished between them and Gu-Yuan, Gong-Ming, Jian-Xi, and Chong-Guan…

While facing a gigantic pressure in life, and love relationship, these four young ladies have encountered huge changes in friendship and love, even family relationship. Facing all these radical changes, how could they still hold on their attitude and value toward life and love? How could they still create colorful pages in their young life?


This movie definitely shows the strong bond among the four female leads. One would think their friendship started way back, only to realise it they only met when the production started.

Lin Xiao 林萧 (by Yang Mi 楊冪)



A Chinese literature major, Lin Xiao has a close friendship with Gu-Li, Nan-Xian and Tang Wan-Ru since childhood. She became a personal assistant of the editor of [M.E] magazine after her graduation. She is a literature lover, highly valuing friendship but is timid and independent, sometimes childish. She does not value herself highly but admires her best friend, Gu-Li and her colleague – Kitty.



She fell in love Jian-Xi since high school but broke up with him several times for a thousand reasons. Lin Xiao represents most girls in common life, a hardworking young lady with sympathy. She greets the real world in a pure and innocent view, without distinguishing anyone. However, her role is to line up the whole story as the main bridge.

Gu-Li 顾里 (by Amber Kuo Tsai Chieh 郭采潔)



An international finance major. Pretty and rich, intelligent and outstanding. Always facing the world with coldness and pride. Gu-Li represents the highest level which all girls envy and feel jealous at the same time. She is like a goddess on the mountain top, attracting all to worship her from the bottom.



You might have seen Amber in music videos of  local songbird, Stefanie Sun’s Rainy Day 雨天 and F.I.R’s其实还爱你. Her character, Gu-Li was nominated in 2010 for Best Leading Actress in a Television Series at the 45th Golden Bell Awards.

Tang Wan-Ru唐宛如 (by Sie Yi Lin 谢依霖/Hold住姐)



A physical education major. Energetic but simple minded and strong body shape does not respond to her pinky dream in soul. Her dream is to become a top model, like Lin Chi-Ling.



Her father is a sport instructor so she has been trained as an outstanding badminton player since she was four which results in her well-developed muscles. Her straightforward personality and innocent always embarrasses herself in front of people without self-awareness. However, she never cares but the other three girls feel embarrassed for her.

Nan-Xiang 南湘 (by Kuo Bea Ting郭碧婷)



An art major. A girl from a poor family, with elegant looks and talent in art, she lacks confidence when she faces Gu-Li. Nan-Xiang is a girl with nature-born art element in bone. In the art or advertisement fields, there are many girls like this. They don’t have high expectations for material life, but tend to feel disappointed about the world.



Nan Xiang are radical and drastic in soul under a peaceful looking, with contrasting reaction for love and hate. Nan-Xiang and Gu-Li represent the strong contrast of these two different values.

Gu-yuan 顾源 (by Kai Ko 柯震东)



Gu-Li’s boyfriend, a handsome looking young guy with wealthy family background; a calm and cool soul just like Gu-Li. Gu-Yuan and Jian-Xi are the ideal boyfriend for all school girls in dream.



However, Gu-Yuan does not value ‘money’ and “figure” as highly as Gu-Li. Between bread and love, his decision is totally opposite from that of Gu-Li. His love to Gu-Li can only remain in a terrible balance between passion and calm.

Gong Ming 宮洺 (by Rhydian Vaughan凤小岳)



The Executive Editor of [M.E] fashion magazine, and also Lin-Xiao’s boss. A gentleman of frosty manners with gorgeous looks. A picky, self-centred perfectionist neat freak. In Gong’s world, it is a basic standard to have strict discipline, which is a struggle for Lin-Xiao who has to learn to be quick-witted to fulfil all of his assignments, including knowing which thousand-dollar glass goes with which drink!



After working for Gong for a while, Lin-Xiao discovered the loneliness of Gong under his emotionless face and feel touched beside respect.

Guo Jingming 郭敬明



In 2007 at a young age of 24, Guo Jingming became one of China’s bestselling authors. His first novel City of Fantasies (幻城), sold 800,000 copies in the first couple of months, and over 1.5 million copies to date. He then wrote a 3-book series Tiny Times, which each became the bestseller of the year.

What the cast have to say about their director!


Guo Jingming also established  the Ke Ai Entertainment Company in 2004, and produces teen magazines such as “Top Novel” and “Island”. He was then hired by Changjiang Publishing House in 2009 as a vice editor. The movie Tiny Times marks his debut as a film director.
