F for Food, F for Films + Stand a Chance to Win Food Vouchers!

By InCinemas  /  18 Jun 2014 (Wednesday)

Here are some of our favourite, delicious films about food! Plus, we've some food vouchers to give away! More after the jump.

They all have one thing in common: It’s not recommended to watch these films on an empty stomach…

Ratatouille

Who knew the French dish of the same name would be so popular after Disney’s release of the adorable animation Ratatouille? The rat running loose in a restaurant kitchen is actually a foodie who is interested in cooking - like duh?

The animators made each dish look elegant and grand, with close-ups of pipping-hot soup and mouthwatering French cuisine. What’s not to love?

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Who could resist the heavenly taste of chocolate? Now add a chocolate river and edible plants around a chocolate factory, yums isn’t it?

Roald Dahl's classic story is brought to life with Tim Burton’s take on Willy Wonka and his chocolate factory. For those who have read the book, it’s a place too good to be true and a wonderland for kids and all foodies out there. I want my golden ticket too!

If we were to talk about Taiwan’s gastronomic culture, what’s better represented than the Ban-doh (outdoor banquet) tradition!

The outdoor feast usually take place with hundreds of people, and the head chef behind the creation of these dishes is known as the (總舖師) which is directly translated to ‘Zone Pro Site’. This film is fresh in my mind because of its native humour used, and the 3-hour duration on food and traditional Taiwan dishes.

Julie & Julia

It’s one of the sweetest, comedy-drama about food that I've always loved. Julie & Julia is a film about a popular blogger Julie Powell who aspires to cook all 524 recipes in Julia Child’s cookbook in 365 days. From the savoury pastas to delightful cakes, expect a range of gorgeously-plated food and some foodie drama.

In addition, we're talking about A-listers Meryl Streep and Amy Adams together in one movie! It's always a joy watching them on the big screen and this is no exception.

Filmmaker Jon Favreau who is also the director of Marvel’s Iron Man directs and stars in the comedy as Miami-born Chef Casper, attempts to prove himself in front of a critic when he stopped by the restaurant. Things took a turn and to recoup what his has lost, he restores a broken-down food truck and serves Cuban sandwiches.

The film is a feel-good comedy, with elements of food that centres round the theme of love and determination. We also get to see cameos like Robery Downey Jr in the film as well. What’s there not to like?
