Vicki Zhao Wei is No Tiger Mom!

Actress-director Vicki Zhao Wei returns to the small screen after a 6-year hiatus with Chinese drama ‘Tiger Mom’, where she plays a ‘Type-A’ mother.
She may be the ‘tigress’ in the drama but in real life, Zhao is the opposite of her character, saying she is in fact a ’ very easy-going’ mother. Married to Singaporean businessman with a five-year-old daughter, April Huang, the 39-year-old revealed that she doesn’t use a stern approach in parenting.
Zhao Wei was in Singapore last Friday (8 May) with co-star Wang Sen and executive producer Huang Lan to promote their newest TV drama on STAR Chinese Channel, Tiger Mom <虎妈猫爸>. At the press conference held at Resorts World Sentosa, they shared anecdotes of their experiences filming the show and talked about the stressful rat race children go through in their academic years.

“As a mother, I can relate to this role because I understand the tough competition parents and children face in today’s education. Having stayed in Singapore for a period of time, I’ve seen how parents here have high expectations of their children because they want their kids to do well… it’s the same for China too,” said Zhao Wei.
She added: “I accepted this drama over other shows like period drama or a martial arts because these characters are people we see in our everyday lives and is one that is very close to my heart.”
Wang Sen, who plays a playful brother to Zhao Wei’s character in the series, shared that it is his first time in Singapore and he is thinking of staying for a few days to explore the island.
Tiger Mom is airing on STAR Chinese Channel (卫视中文台), Singtel TV Ch. 507 and StarHub TV Ch. 822 every weekdays at 9pm.

[Synopsis]
Tiger Mom <虎妈猫爸> explores love, relationships and the challenges of raising a child in modern day China. The series follows a set of parents and their young daughter. Smart, successful in their careers and happy with their home life, the couple feels blessed, however turmoil begins when their daughter starts school and their darling angel seems to be behind all her peers and unable keep up. Conflict arises between the type-A ‘tiger mom’ and the more docile ‘cat’ dad in their methods to get their daughter up to speed. It’s the battle between ‘tiger’ and ‘cat,’ with their family’s happiness hanging in the balance. Tiger Mom <虎妈猫爸> stars Zhao Wei and Tong Dawei, renowned actors recognized in China and overseas amongst Chinese content fans. The series also marks Zhao Wei’s highly anticipated return to the screen after a 6-year hiatus.
