With an encouraging $461,000 over the 4-day weekend (17th – 20th August), Korean blockbuster ‘The Battleship Island’ starring Hwang Jung-min, So Ji-sub, Soong Jong-ki, and Lee Jung-Hyun, rose to become the 2nd ‘Biggest Opening Weekend Box Office for Korean Movies in Singapore’, 1 spot behind zombie thriller ‘Train to Busan’ which grossed $611,000 last year.
Accumulatively, the movie has collected a stunning $571,000, including its 3-day sneak previews from 11th August – 13th August.
Mr. Lim Teck, Managing Director of Clover Films and co-distributor of the movie, says, “We are thrilled with the performance of THE BATTLESHIP ISLAND in Singapore! We hope to push the movie beyond the SGD $1 million mark here and achieve what only one other Korean movie has done previously!”
Perhaps it's the star power of the movie, where the three main leads including director Ryoo Seung-Wan came to Singapore two weeks ago, that fans just couldn't get enough of their oppas.
