SINGAPORE, 25 NOVEMBER 2011 – For a multitude of fans, the long wait to see their favourite artistes was finally over. With nearly 1000 fans present at Square 2 earlier this evening to welcome Asian pop stars ViVid, Teen Top and Zhang Yun Jing at the specially arranged Sundown Festival Fan Meet, scenes nearly turned catastrophic at Singapore’s first Korean themed enclave.

With fans from near and far waiting eagerly in anticipation from as early as 9am this morning, it was little wonder that by 7pm, the concourse of Square 2 was nearly enveloped by hordes of fans, each gathered with fellow enthusiasts, united in their support for their pop stars.

Waving colourful banners and signages, fans cheered vociferously and unrestrained every time the emcee mentioned their idol’s name. The drama increased exponentially when the emcee signaled the arrival of Taiwanese pop star, Zhang Yun Jing, the first to arrive at the Fan Meet.

With followers from local fan clubs, Jing Evolution and Jing Castle, turning up in full force, a collection of screams and high pitched shrieks filled the air as soon as the multi-award winning Mando pop queen came into view.

Things escalated even further when ViViD and Teen Top made their appearance moments later.

With camera flashes and cell phones giving the entire concourse a lightshow of its own, there was nothing the emcee could do to calm or contain exuberant fans as screams and chants from supporters drowned out the words of the emcee and the artiste alike.

The reception was further spurred on by ViViD fans who came not only to rub shoulders with the J Rock band, but to also celebrate the birthday of guitarist, Ryoga, who recently celebrated his birthday on Tuesday, 22nd November.

Bearing gifts of all shapes and sizes, ViViD fans even sang an impromptu birthday song, much to the surprise and delight of Ryoga and his band mates, who sportingly joined in the celebration.

The biggest reception however, was reserved for Teen Top’s arrival, with many fans screaming uncontrollably. Some fans even broke into tears at the sheer sight of their favourite K Pop band.

One such fan, Syahidah Muntoha, aged 21, who shared her euphoria, between sobs, “I am so excited to finally see Teen Top up close and personal! I love Chunji’s voice and his bright smile so much! I cannot wait to see their synchronized dancing at tomorrow’s Sundown Festival!”

This year’s Sundown Festival, in its third year running since its inaugural success in 2009, promises  to be a musical experience unlike any other, bringing together standout acts from Korea, Japan and Taiwan in a first-ever tri-Asian nation music showcase. Organisers have also pulled out all stops in creating a complete experience for fans and supporters with affordable street food from Korea, Japan and Taiwan available to festival goers.

If the reception at the Fan Meet is anything to go by with only 1000 fans in attendance, tomorrow’s musical extravaganza will truly be a sight to behold with nearly 5000 fans descending on the Marina Promenade.

Singapore, are you ready?
