A ‘Yellow’ and Intimate evening with Rachel Liang Wen Yin
By InCinemas / 18 Mar 2013 (Monday)
Fans who attended Rachel Liang Wen Yin’s (梁文音) fan-meet last Saturday would agree that it was not only an unforgettable evening but also a day where they got to know their idol a little more.
Dressed in a spring inspired pink-blue outfit, the 26-year-old singer greeted her cheering fans with a familiar smile at Switch, a live music bar by Timbre.
It isn’t the first time Liang was in town to promote her album. She mentioned that almost for all her previous three albums, she also placed Singapore as one of the countries to go as part of her promotional tour. When asked about a full-fledged concert in the future, she confidently replied that she would definitely have a ‘Singapore stop’ if the plan of a concert comes about.

I admire how she was so candid and frank with her fans poking fun at them and not afraid to speak her mind. Citing an example from the fan-meet, a fan shouted to her, asking if she could walk down to mingle with them while singing her song, the singer replied, ‘ How can I sing properly if I walked down?’ Although I did not find that offensive, I can see why she gets misunderstood at times. On the contrary, I saw that as a professional call.
As mentioned during her press conference last Friday, she updates fans on her blog and strongly believes in telling them the truth about her views on issues and things.
Despite queuing in the hot sun for hours to meet their idol, fans were not disappointed for they got to meet her up-close, almost an arm’s length away. Yup! During one of the games where she had to walk to every table and choose an item she fancied, fans were in for a treat as she chatted and played with them.
A movie ticket, car keys, a yellow wallet and diamond were some of the items that she eyed on, thereafter owners of the items were given a 30 seconds ‘confession time’ to the songbird before the overall winner was chosen.
The big promotional poster board was the grand prize, with a personalised dedication and autograph by Liang. She even left a cute warning to the winner not to ‘steal a kiss’ with her.
Besides interacting and playing games with her fans, Liang sang three songs from her latest album, Yellow Jacket (黃色夾克) instead of the planned two. “I’ll sing another song for all of you since I forgot my lyrics earlier", she said with a smile, echoed with cheers from the delightful fans.
I’m glad she sang three songs instead of the initial two, for it was a joy listening to her live performance. There’s no doubt about her powerful, sweet vocals for afterall, she was the runner-up of an international singing competition held in Taiwan. Singing her heart out for her ballad numbers, fans were seen swaying to the tunes, singing along with her.
Even when Liang’s mic ran out of battery halfway into her song, fans were there to save the day as it slowly became a mass sing-along session. What a perfect way to end the fan-meet session!
