'Train To Busan' Claimed the No. 1 Spot at Local Weekend Box Office Chart!

By Flora  /  22 Aug 2016 (Monday)

Korean zombie epic 'Train to Busan' continues to break records at the Singapore box office.

Earlier this month when the film opened on 4th August, it set the record of the biggest opening day box-office for a Korean movie locally, grossing a stunning $75,000 on 25 screens. Thereafter, it quickly rose to the $2million mark at the local box office in less than 2 weeks; and today, we recieved news that 'Train To Busan' claimed the No.1 spot at the local weekend box office chart, despite its third weekend of release, beating Hollywood blockbusters.

These blockbusters include Ben-Hur, Lights Out, The Shallows and even Suicide Squad. The mobie grossed $668,000 over its third weekend and accumulated an astonished SGD $2.94 million as of 21st August.

Managing Director of Clover Films, Mr Lim Teck says, “It is remarkable that a three-week-old movie can climb to the top of the weekend box office chart! 'Train To Busan' continues to amaze us and there is no stopping for this movie. We are very grateful to the Singapore audience for supporting and embracing the movie and now we aim for the SGD $3.5-million mark!”

Besides holding its position at the current box office chart, Train To Busan stands at the 4th position at the 2016 Top 10 Asian Movies box office chart, beating out titles like 'From Vegas To Macau 3', 'Cold War 2' and 'The Monkey King 2'. The film now ranks behind Mermaid ($4.35 million), Long Long Time Ago ($4.16 million) and 'Long Long Time Ago 2' ($3.03 million).
