'Big Brother' Donnie Yen Action Compilation

By InCinemas  /  07 Aug 2018 (Tuesday)
Donnie Yen’s martial arts skills is one of the best in Hong Kong film history. From WuShu to Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) to Wing Chun, the versatility he displays in his action choreography can only be achieved through years of training. Way before he became an action star, he trained first under his mother who is a tai chi grandmaster. When he was a teenager, he was sent to train with Beijing WuShu team where he was discovered by legendary action choreographer Yuen Woo-Ping.

Donnie’s fight scenes combine the athletic agility of Jet Li and the speed of Bruce Lee with an explosive force that is thrilling to watch. And it doesn’t hurt that he looks 20 years younger than his age. (He’s 55 years old this year).
The versatile action star’s latest film ‘Big Brother’ provides further proof that he can showcase his awesome martial arts skills, and at the same time, play a character who is an unconventional teacher that instills critical thinking to his students. Here’s the trailer if you have not seen it:

Psyched up for more? Here are some of the most intense movie fights earlier in his career before ‘Ip Man’ catapulted him to superstardom.

In The Line Of Duty 4 (1989)
Arcade game-style 'boss' fight!

Tiger Cage 2 (1990)
Epic katana (sword) fight!

Even when Donnie’s hands is bound in chains, it does not stop him from winning. Power!

Legend Of The Wolf (1997)
Donnie Yen’s directorial debut.
Absolutely bonkers fight utilizing props and weapons.

SPL (Sha Po Lang) (also known in the U.S. as ‘Kill Zone’) (2005)
Donnie Yen using a baton VS. Wu Jing using a knife.
Immensely rewatchable fight between these two martial artists because the speed of the choreography is just so fast! (we’re not complaining)

Legend VS. Legend. This climatic epic bloody end fight between Sammo Hung and Donnie Yen for the movie is truly one for the ages.

Flash Point (2007)
This brutal end fight mixes Hong Kong style action stunts and MMA-style takedowns. Very satisfying to watch from start to end.

*Bonus*
Watch Donnie show off his top-notch breakdancing moves in this romantic action comedy from 1985. Trailer here:
