Donnie Yen plays the role of a teacher in ‘Big Brother’ – an action movie that also raises some big questions about the meaning of education (Read our review of this movie here; Watch Donnie show off his martial arts prowess here).
We all had teachers in our schooling days that we loved and hated. Good teachers inspire their students while bad teachers diminish students’ motivation to learn! With the opening of ‘Big Brother’, we take this opportunity to highlight both reel and real teachers – the good, the bad and the chio*

The Good Teachers
Teacher Brennan
- Long story cut short: This teacher's wife posted on FaceBook. Online media got hold of her post and published an article about it.
Her teacher husband was so exhausted from working that he starts dozing off at 9.15pm. Not only that! He forks out his own money to buy pizzas for his students!
If this is not dedication then I don't know what is. R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
Teacher Louanne Johnson, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, from the movie ‘Dangerous Minds’
- Takeaway from this inspirational teacher movie based on a true story, is: “Learning IS the prize”
Don't ever forget, never stop learning!
The Bad Teachers
Teacher Elizabeth Halsey, played by Cameron Diaz, from the movie ‘Bad Teacher’
- Cheating money from her students’ parents to raise funds for her breast implants! Double win!
The extremely absent-minded teacher in the movie ‘Fight Back To School’
- This chemistry teacher, who has short-term memory loss, is just like Dory in ‘Finding Nemo’!
First, he can't remember he just turned on the gas! Next, he can't remember his students' names which he just asked a while ago! And finally, he informed his students that they must remember the steps to execute the science experiment, failing to do so will result in dangerous consequence. Ji-Ba-Boom!
The Chio* Teacher
Secret confession: Chen Liping as “AiYoYo” teacher in the Singapore Chinese TV serial ‘Good Morning, Sir!’ was my first TV crush *blush*
- In case you're unaware, "AiYoYo" was the catchphrase of the character that she plays
(“Aiyo / AiYoYo” : a phrase uttered as a response to describe surprised moments, from trivial matters to seriously bad news.)
